Description: Hallux Valgus surgery is one of the most common procedures performed by foot & ankle surgeons, yet patient dissatisfaction following the procedure exceeds our expectations. Despite this, there is a paucity of literature that examines potential contributing factors to unfavorable outcomes. Previous studies have suggested that radiographic angles and relationships may explain outcomes, however it seems quite clear that patient perception of outcomes following hallux valgus surgery is a complex issue that cannot be fully explained by radiographic angles alone. This prospective study examines biopsychosocial patient attributes that may influence surgical outcomes following hallux valgus surgery.
Learning Objectives: - We will explore a variety of biopsychosocial patient attributes currently being examined in medical literature that may contribute to surgical outcomes, including attributes which may influence hallux valgus surgery - We will demonstrate what purpose radiographic angles have in patient perceived outcomes following hallux valgus surgery - We will explain how physicians can utilize these results during their pre-operative planning prior to hallux valgus surgery - We will explore the use of patient reported outcomes in the literature and how this can utilized in practice
